It seems odd to label Boyracer one of Australia’s hottest young bands – sure, they’re hot, and they are Aussie – but how can a band that’s been rocking across the country for close on 9 years still be considered young?
Well, believe it. These guys have been playing together professionally since the age of 8! Starting out as the mini-boy band Boyz way back in late 2000, the guys have grown up playing to huge crowds and are as much at home on a big stage as they are in their own lounge rooms.
The 3-piece Boyz (Dean, Jaxson and Alex) morphed into Boyracer early in 2008, with the change marked by a new look, the acclaimed single Baby I’m Yours and an extended line-up. The new band has been quickly accepted by the loyal fan base with guitarist Nath and drummer Nick taking their place alongside the original members as teen heart throbs.
Still in their mid to late teens, Boyracer’s CV looks like that of a veteran band twice their age. Three CD’s (Calling Up An Angel, Take It Or Leave It and Baby I’m Yours) and literally hundreds of gigs at Australia’s top venues and alongside our greatest artists. They’ve played alongside Human Nature, Vanessa Amorosi, Debra Conway. They’ve shared the stage with everyone from Anthony Callea to Darryl Cotton, from Babba to Eddie Perfect.
Ask the guys about their career high points so far and it sounds like a teenage fantasy come true: biggest crowd – 20,000; favourite venue – Sidney Myer Music Bowl; endorsement deals – DB stage gear, ESP guitars, Monterey guitars; record label – Empire. And so it goes on.
So who are Boyracer? They’re a rock band with awesome vocal harmonies, they’re stage performers who know how to put on a real show, they’re artists who understand the true meaning of entertainment. Every show is treated like a stadium event, regardless of the size of the venue or the crowd. They’re a bunch of guys who love what they do, and who love their fans as much as their fans love them.
